Introducing the Expressive Mom Newsletter: Embracing Hard-Core Truths
I will create a place where anything taboo will be "taboo."
I am thrilled to introduce you to The Expressive Mom Newsletter—a space where we dive deep into the heart of what it means to be a mother or father in today’s complex world.
This newsletter isn’t just for parents; it’s for anyone seeking to break free from the constraints of societal norms and explore the uncomfortable truths that often go unspoken.
Initially, I opened up this newsletter just after the New Year. I felt I needed to create an open forum on the ugly realities of special needs parenting, which is why I originally called it Confessions of a Parenting Trauma Survivor.
However, I let it sit for a while because I felt something more needed to be added to this newsletter, and I found it! I am calling it The Expressive Mom Newsletter.
What Is the Deal with Expressive Mom?
I established the Expressive Mom blog in 2014 and have made some income from it, but I needed to do something extra with it.
So, a few years later, I hosted a podcast, The Expressive Mom Show, through the old-style Blog Talk Radio. Do you remember that?
However, it did not last long; I was beginning to go downhill due to the extreme burnout I was dealing with at the time.
Fast-forward to now. I felt called to resurrect this podcast over the summer, and I did. As of now, I am featuring guests. So here is what you can expect from this newsletter and the podcast.
I Will Speak About Challenging Societal Norms
Face it, as parents, and mothers in particular, we are often inundated with expectations—how we should parent, look, and balance our lives.
But what happens when we adhere too rigidly to these societal norms? The reality is that obeying these standards can be damaging, not just to ourselves but to our families.
In this newsletter, I will challenge these norms head-on, sharing stories and insights that encourage you to forge your path.
We’ll explore how embracing your individuality can lead to personal growth and fulfillment and provide a platform for voices that dare to question the status quo.
The Reality of Mental Health and Self-Care
Mental health is an essential topic that deserves our attention, yet it remains shrouded in stigma and misunderstanding.
I will confront the uncomfortable facts surrounding mental health, discussing the lack of support systems and the hidden struggles many of us face.
Self-care isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a vital practice that often gets overlooked in the hustle of daily life.
This newsletter aims to provide practical tips, resources, and heartfelt stories that empower you to prioritize your mental well-being. I want to break down the barriers that prevent us from seeking help and support.
I will Be Addressing Taboos
Many taboo subjects need to be brought to light—postpartum depression, miscarriages, parenting children with special needs (which was the original intent of this newsletter), and the myriad challenges that come with raising a family.
The Expressive Mom Newsletter is committed to creating a safe space for these discussions.
We will share personal journeys, expert advice, and coping strategies to help you navigate these complex topics.
By confronting these issues openly, I hope we can support one another and foster a sense of community that uplifts and empowers.
The Expressive Mom Provides an Invitation to Engage
I invite you to join me on this journey of exploration and understanding. The Expressive Mom Newsletter is not just about sharing information; it’s about creating a dialogue.
Your voice matters, and I encourage you to share your stories, thoughts, and insights. Let’s discuss the uncomfortable truths that shape our lives and redefine what it means to be a mother in today’s world.
Stay tuned for what is to come, where I will explore these topics and more. Besides this post, I will be posting an article each Thursday going forward.
Let’s embrace the uncomfortable, challenge the norm, and create a community that celebrates authenticity and resilience.
I'm glad that I've subscribed as I am an atypical parent!
Miriam, reading your Hero Post helped me a lot to understand your direction with this newsletter. I already know what you do with your tarot newsletter, but this one is new and interesting. I like where you're going with this, and what you've already done. I'm interested to see what we might uncover in November together. Cheers!
